Description
The 108th Anniversary Sacred Amulets of Wat Rakang
The Phra Somdej Wat Rakang, 108th Anniversary Commemorative Edition is commonly referred to by collectors as Somdej Wat Rakang, Generation 3. This edition holds particular significance due to both its historical context and its relatively limited production.
The 108th Anniversary Commemorative series was produced strictly on a pre-order basis only, meaning that amulets were created solely to match confirmed reservations. As a result, no excess quantities were manufactured, making this edition notably scarce when compared with other Wat Rakang commemorative releases.
It is estimated that approximately 50,000 to 60,000 amulets were produced in total. This figure represents the lowest production number among all Phra Somdej Wat Rakang commemorative editions, further enhancing its desirability and long-term value among serious collectors and devotees.
Due to its controlled issuance, historical importance, and association with the grand 108-Year Wat Rakang consecration ceremony, this edition is widely regarded as one of the most collectible modern Phra Somdej amulets from Wat Rakang.
Indeed these  commemorative amulets are regarded as one of the most significant and revered religious issues associated with Wat Rakang Kositaram, one of Thailand’s most historically important temples and the spiritual home of Somdet Phra Phutthachan (Toh Phrommarangsi).
The grand Phutthaphisek (Buddha consecration) ceremony was solemnly conducted inside the Ubosot of Wat Rakang on 22 June B.E. 2523 (1980). This auspicious ceremony was organized to mark the 108th anniversary of the temple and was carried out on an exceptional scale, reflecting both the spiritual importance of the occasion and the high status of the monastic participants.
A total of more than 66 highly respected and renowned meditation masters (Khruba Ajarn) from across Thailand were invited to participate, each seated in prayer and meditation to empower the amulets through concentrated chanting and mental consecration. Many of these monks were among the most influential figures in Thai Buddhism and sacred arts during that era, making this gathering extraordinarily rare.
